Emily's First Week

So after Emily's exciting and quick arrival and a quiet morning of just Dan, Emily, and I, we had visitors in the afternoon last Sunday (March 6).  Dan brought the kids by around 3:30 pm.  They were excited to meet the baby and they were excited to eat the "sibling cake" the hospital provides for siblings.  In fact, Jack didn't care about the baby at all until after he had 2 pieces of cake.  Then he came to hold her.  Dad and Sally arrived around 4.  They all left by about 5.  Shad and Amy came up without their kids around 6 or so.  So by 7, it was just Emily and I and we had a good first night!  I was tired and fell asleep around 8:30 or so.  Emily was good to eat and go right back to sleep, so even with the nurses coming in often, I got pretty good sleep.

Ready for bed.  Perfection.

Monday was quiet too.  Dad came to visit (and pick up his camera that he forgot) on his way into work for about 45 minutes.  We had fun chatting and wondering about these little spirits and how the veil is for them--we both think the veil seems to be thin for new babies.  My doctor came in to check on me and told me I had tested positive for Hep B--which is crazy for a number of reasons, so they were sending some additional labs to figure out what was really going on.  For that reason, we thought I'd have to stay another night while we waited on the labs to come back.  So Dan came to visit me in the afternoon for a few hours and headed back home to be with the kids after school.  But then, around 5:30, my doctor called to say all the labs had come back normal and I did not have Hep B, so we were free to go home!  I called Dan and he got our friend Kyra to watch our kids while he came to pick us up around 8 pm.  Emily and I got home around 9 pm.

Home!

Tuesday morning when the kids woke up, they were SO excited to have baby sister here!  They all gathered around her little bassinet to say good morning.  It was pretty cute.  The first grade musical was that day for Brooke, so Dan got to go to the school with Candy to watch. Emily and I took it easy that day.  Ali brought her kids over to meet the baby that night after dinner.

Wednesday was also quiet!  It was really rainy.  Dan took Candy and Jack to chick fil a for playgroup and lunch.

Thursday was quiet too.  Ali took Jack and Candy in the morning so we could rest and get our guest room ready--Dan's mom Jane flew in that night right after dinner.  She stayed home with Jack and Emily while Dan and I went to the school open house with the big girls.  They both have nice teachers and are doing well. They were excited to show off things they'd been working on.

Friday was quiet too (do you detect a theme here?).  Candy went to joy school in the morning.  We had dinner at Ali's house that night, Pappasito's takeout, yum.

Sweet baby snuggled in my bed in the morning.

5 Day old Photoshoot.  I love them all.

Snuggles with Grandma...

Megan's favorite way to hold the baby when she gets home from school.

Saturday Megan and Dan got to go to a stake primary activity about feasting on the scriptures.  She had a lot of fun.  In the afternoon, Dan and Jane took all the big kids to Ali's son's soccer game, got ice cream at McDonald's, and played at a park.  We watched a movie last night and went to bed pretty early to be ready to lose an hour of sleep (I hate the time changes, but this one is easier than the other for our kids).

Carrie came to visit in the morning Saturday.

Bath time with lots of helpers.

It's been a nice Sunday.  I stayed home with Emily and read some conference talks and watched a BYU tv sacrament meeting and emailed Ty.  We had dinner with Ali's family tonight and then Jamie and her fam came to meet Emily (they are already at the Butler's lake house on Lake Conroe).

She is so adored.
